Hello! I'm planning a multi-state road trip starting next month. I'm taking 5 weeks and will be going through 25 (I think) states. Feel free to follow my blog hereepicroadtrip . It's pretty quiet now, but come September it should perk up.

Any tips for doing things on the cheap are always appreciated.

Thanks :)

Hello ^_^
Hey there, my name is Becky. I've been on quite a few road trips in the past 5 years, most for fun but some for not so fun reasons. I live in Michigan. My vehicle is a 2003 Ford Ranger, black.

I went on 3 multi-state road trips this year and a couple more in-state. Michigan is pretty beautiful (outside of the massive (s)uburban sprawl of the Detroit-metro area). Has anyone done any of the Circle-Lake tours?

I think I am going to do a major road trip next year. I hope to do a caravan with some other people. I feel privileged that I have had the opportunity to explore the USA and do it on my terms with my car.

Current Mood: okay

I am new in here. Just  to introduce myself and my community India Travel Help.
I love to read up on travel and during a lot of such reads I came across the problems travellers come across while travelling to a new country.

I therefore decided to start this community. I am a resident of Mumbai, India . This community is just to help travellers who are visiting India.

Just FYI: This is not an advertisement or company, just a voluntary project that I feel really strongly about. Not just online tips, please feel free to mail me at indiatravelhelp@gmail.com for any query that you might have about visiting here.

I will try and help as much as I can - over mail as well as in person.
Safe Travels!

Nb: Please excuse me if such posts (introducing personal communities) are not encouraged  here. Ciao!

Hey everyone! My friend and I are about to embark on a 6-week "Round-the-country" trip. The idea is to see if we can successfully manage our lives & start our humble Internet companies without an address. To go along with the whole thing and have some sort of written record of it, we're starting a blog (http://www.roadtrip20.com), and I'd love any suggestions on things we could put on there, places to go, etc. You can find a more detailed itinerary on the site, but it's still a work in progress.

Thanks for any / all input : )

Live vicariously! 8000 mile roadtrip from April 2007
I just found this community, or else I would have posted this earlier...

My fiancee and I went on a massive roadtrip to the west coast and back, seeing the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, 99% of the west coast, and more!

We've got entries, pictures, and time lapse videos from the whole shebang.

California Tripping
A bunch of starry-eyed kids and a rental van full of psychedelics and liquor. We're going straight from Florida to California.

Anyone is welcome to come, provided they pitch in some gas money or whatever they can. It's a give whatcha can/take whatcha need trip.

The van should be leaving Florida in approx. one month. We have no set travel plan except "West", so if you're between us and them and want to tag along just let me know =). I explain the trip and who's going in more detail in my journal.

Chicago to Buffalo
I'm going on a roadtrip from Chicago to Buffalo next month. I've never been through the midwest so I'm very unfamilar with that part of the country. Can anyone point out any places off the beaten path (or on it for that matter) that I might want to check out?

Sorry about the cross post on a couple of different rt livejournals.

Has anyone here traveled with green tortoise?

If so, what was your experience like? Opinions? Good? Bad? Anything else?

Or, do you have any other places that give tours like this?

Edit: What about footlose and trekamerica? Any opinions with them?

Departure May 28 [from my parents place in Plano, Texas] 1

Stay in Albuquerque, New Mexico night of May 28 2
Pass by Petrified Forest in Arizona May 29 - 1/2 day? 3
Arrive Grand Canyon May 29 4
Visit Grand Canyon May 30, 1 day enough or not?
Leaving Grand Canyon May 31
Arrive Tucson, Arizona May 31
Visit Saguaro National Park May 31 5
Arrive Las Cruces, New Mexico June 1
Visit White Sands National Park June 2 6
Visit Carlsbad Cavern June 2 7
Stay in Carlsbad area June 2
Return home June 3 8

routeCollapse )

So my questions are-
Is this roadtrip/route do-able? Or should we take less/more time on anything specific on the route?
Anything on that route we should see that's not listed?
What is the climate/weather during that time period? What kind of clothing to bring?
Any other must-have things to bring?
Anything specific you think we should do/see specifically at any of those attractions I've listed?
Any good travel books/sites/etc that tells about any of those places listed?
Any other good tips on these places, road trips, travel, or anything?

Car Rental
So, my boyfriend and I are going from NJ to New Orleans at the end of may. We need to rent a car because neither of our cars will make it that far. Problem is, he's under 25 and we're going out of state.

Anybody know the best deals for renting a car under those conditions??

This summer, I want to take a short road trip with my boyfriend (within a day's drive) somewhere, but I am not sure where yet.

We are in San Antonio, TX.

Here are a few places we're considering:

* Port Aransas beach, TX - approx 3 hours
* South Padre Island, TX - approx 5 hours
* Big Bend National Park, TX - approx 8 hours
* Ozarks Mountains, AR - approx 11 hours

Or if you have any other suggestions, under a day's drive (12-15 hours max), please suggest. I've named mostly naturey type places, but if there's unique cities out there, please suggest those too. I just lived/visited most major cities in Texas so I'm not as interested, but other states or small unique ones in TX - suggest away.

Also, if you recommend any of the choices that I've said, or tell me to avoid any places you wouldn't recommend, that'll be great too.

Since we're both poor students on budgets right now, suggestions for cheap motels/camping areas in any of those places, as well as tips of cheap places to eat, routes we should take, what the climate is like, suggestions of what must-do/must-see attractions in any of those areas, what to bring, etc. Any tips you have at all is great too.
